Introduction

The Hobart waterfront combines the best elements of five-star luxury with a genuine urban edge.

In most cities of the world, working ports have been sanitised so much that all the colour and vitality has been stripped away, leaving nothing but a dull, lifeless shell. Not in Hobart.

But while many parts of Sullivans Cove work superbly well, the reality is that other parts are run down and need reinvigorating. These sites will be developed in a sensible, orderly manner that is sensitive to the size and scale of the Cove.

The sites will be redeveloped through a mix of public and private-sector development projects. The Tasmanian Government has already kick-started projects at the Hobart Railyards and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.

These projects have the potential to hugely enhance the waterfront as a whole.
The Hobart waterfront embodies the values of Tasmania as a vibrant and attractive place. The Authority works hard to preserve what is best about the waterfront while encouraging and guiding suitable developments which will enhance the Cove.
