Applying for Building and/or Plumbing Permits

When is a permit required

In most circumstances, building or plumbing work will require a permit from the Authority.

If you are unsure whether your proposed building works require a permit, contact a certified building surveyor.

If you are unsure whether your proposed plumbing works require a permit, contact a registered plumber.

An online register of Accredited Building Practitioners, including building surveyors, is maintained by Workplace Standards Tasmania. View this information on their website at www.wst.tas.gov.au.

Property owners and occupiers are responsible for ensuring that all necessary permits have been granted prior to the commencement of works or occupation of a building. Unauthorised building or plumbing works may result in legal enforcement action, including fines.
