The Authority

The Sullivans Cove Waterfront Authority was officially proclaimed on 4 April 2005.

The Sullivans Cove Waterfront Authority Act 2004 requires that the Authority must consist of a five person Board appointed by the Minister. The current Minister for Planning is the Hon David Llewellyn MP.

The Act specifies that a Government Representative be included as one of the five appointees and a Hobart City Council representative (not a Councillor) can also be appointed by the Minister on recommendation from the Council.

Ian Knop, AM

Image of Ian Knop, ChairmanIan Knop is the Chairman and Managing Director of Profile Ray and Berndtson, an international executive search and management consulting firm which he founded in 1976, and is also Chairman of the Ray and Berndtson Asia Pacific Practice.

Ian has extensive experience in both the private and public sectors. He was Deputy Chairman of Aurora Energy and a retired Chairperson of the Sydney Ports Corporation. He is also a former Chairman of Soccer Australia (now Football Federation Australia) and a former Member of the FIFA World Club Championship Organising Committee.

Ian is a Director of the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation, the Government's official export credit agency. He is also the former Chairman of the Australian International Hotel School Management Board and Hotel Kurrajong, Canberra, and a former member of Austrade.

Ian was also recently appointed Chairman of the Australian Government's Sugar Research and Development Corporation.

Lisa Hutton, Government Representative

Lisa Hutton is a career public servant having been recruited to the Tasmanian Public Service as a graduate trainee in 1983. Since then she has worked in a range of government departments including the former Parks, Wildlife and Heritage followed by 10 years in policy and executive support roles in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Lisa joined the Department of Justice in 2003 as Director of Legislation Development and Review. In that role she was responsible for the legislative aspects of the Tasmanian Government’s innovative Safe at Home (family violence) initiative and the legal recognition and registration of same sex relationships.

Lisa was appointed Deputy Secretary in 2004 and then Secretary of the Department of Justice in 2007, and is the first woman to occupy this role. The planning portfolio was transferred to the Department in 2006.

Lisa chairs the Workcover Board, is a member of the Board of the Tasmanian Law Reform Institute, the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Council, the Board of the Tasmanian Institute of Law Enforcement Studies and is a life member of the Tasmania University Soccer Club.

Lyn Cox

Image of Lyn CoxLyn Cox, former Managing Partner of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in Tasmania, is highly regarded for his work in the areas of governance, assurance and advisory, and risk assessment.

Lyn is a Bachelor of Economics and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia based in Hobart. He has worked in accounting firms since 1970 and been a Deloitte partner since 1976.

Lyn is currently President, State Council and National Director of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

He has formerly held the positions of State Chairman and National Councillor of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, and senior positions with the National Heart Foundation.

He has completed several Sydney Hobart yacht races.

Professor Philip Goad

Image of Professor Philip GoadProfessor Philip Goad is Director of the Melbourne School of Design at the University of Melbourne. He is an internationally recognised authority on modern Australian architecture who has worked extensively as an architect, conservation consultant and curator.

Philip is an expert on the life and work of Robin Boyd, and has held visiting scholar positions at Columbia University (New York), Bartlett School of Architecture (London) and UCLA (Los Angeles).

Philip is a past editor of Fabrications, the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, Australia and New Zealand, and is a contributing editor to Architecture Australia. Along with Associate Professor Julie Willis, he is the editor of the Encyclopedia of Australian Architecture (forthcoming 2011). He is a member of the Heritage Council in Victoria and is a past President of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (Victoria).

Hobart City Council Representative

The Sullivans Cove Waterfront Act 2004 allows for a representative from the Hobart City Council (not a Councillor) to be formally appointed to the Authority by the Minister. This position is currently vacant and is in the process of being filled.

Immediate Past Members

After four years as members of the Sullivans Cove Waterfront Authority, both Professor Marilyn Lake and Norm McIlfatrick (Government Representative) finished their terms in April 2009. The Authority would like to thank Marilyn and Norm for their outstanding efforts and commitment to the Hobart waterfront.
